Roller Hockey at Community Park

Roller Hockey Hours and Rules:
(Please note use of the Rink is for residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City only)
Sunday          3:00 pm - 6:00 pm  
    Family "Free Skate" (NO hockey during this time)
Monday          Roller Hockey Program
Tuesday         3:30 pm - dark
Wednesday    3:30 pm - dark
Thursday        3:30 pm - dark
Friday             Roller Hockey Program
Saturday         Noon - 6:00pm


For open skate times residents must wear helmets at all times. In addition to helmets residents must also wear shin pads, hockey gloves and shin/knee pads when playing Hockey.

All participants are required to supply full equipment to engage in our hockey programs. This includes:

LEARN & PLAY CLINIC (KINDERGARTEN):

When: Sunday from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.

 Designed as a beginner program for our youngest hockey participants, this hour long clinic will introduce the basics of roller skating along with the basic fundamentals of the game of hockey. No previous experience is required in either roller skating or the game of hockey to join this program.

 

SQUIRTS (1st Grade):

When: Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

 Designed as a continuation of our beginner program, this hour long program will continue to have our young athletes participate in various drills that will enhance skating and the basic hockey fundamentals, adding scrimmages each session. This program will be half clinic format and the other half will be scrimmage games.

PEE WEES (2nd & 3rd Grade):

When: Mondays from 4:00 p.m. & 5:15 p.m.

All participants will be placed on a team and participate in a game of roller hockey each week.  Players should have previous experience in skating and a general knowledge of basic fundamentals of the game. Emphasis is placed on team play & good sportsmanship.

 

MITES (4th & 5th Grade):

When: Fridays from 4:30 p.m. & 5:45 p.m.

All participants will be placed on a team and participate in a game of roller hockey each week. All players should be able to skate and have knowledge of the rules and all the fundamentals of the game. In this division we introduce off-sides. Similar to the Pee Wee division, emphasis is placed on team play & good sportsmanship.

 

JUNIORS (6th, 7th, & 8th Grade):

When: Mondays from 6:30 p.m. & 7:45 p.m.

 All participants will be placed on a team and participate in a game of roller hockey each week. In this division we play off-sides so it essential all players understand the game. Emphasis is placed on being a good team player & good sportsmanship.


SENIORS (9th, 10th, & 11th Grade):

When: Fridays at 7:00 p.m.

Pick up games will be set up each session where high school aged kids can participate in a fun game of roller hockey. All games will be supervised by the hockey staff.

 

ADULTS (35 & over):

When: Fridays at 8:15 p.m.

Pick up games at set up each session where adults (35 & over) can participate in a fun game of roller hockey. All games will be supervised by the hockey staff.

 

 



Roller Rink Redevelopment Project
We are happy to announce that work is on schedule for our new roller rink at the Garden City Community Park.  Please check back periodically as we capture some images of the project.

Phase II of our Hockey Rink Redevelopment Project is making great progress. Soon enough it will be Opening Night and time to drop the puck. Stay tuned for more info about our spring season!   






October 16, 2012
Phase I of Roller Rink Replacement Project is well underway. An extensive drainage system has been installed on the west side of the new rink surface. The rink surface area has been formed out and reinforcing rods are in place. The rink surface requires 290 cubic yards of concrete. Phase II will include the supply and installation of the dasher board system, player benches, fencing and the painting of lines on the new surface. In addition a new scoreboard and public address system will be installed.
