Summer is just around the corner and pool membership registration is underway. The Pool brochure and application can be found by visiting our website, www.gardencityrecreation.org.
This year, residents will have various ways to conveniently register. Residents can download an application and mail it in OR stop by the Recreation Office, 108 Rockaway Ave. Online registration is also available (you must have a password to sign up online, to receive a password you must go to the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave to verify your residency).
Please look through the brochure to see all of the new and exciting things that will be happening at the GC Pool this season. The pool opens on Saturday, June 10 at 12 noon. Hope to see everyone there! For additional information on the pool please visit our website’s Pool page!
Are you 15 years of age or over and interested in becoming an American Red Cross certified CPR & AED professional rescuer and a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard? The pool offers two four week sessions for lifeguard training. The first session begins June 27th and second begins July 25th. Sign-ups begin Saturday, June 10th in the Pool Office. A qualifying pretest is required to enter a class. For more information inquire at the Pool Office. The fee for this program is $275. Please refer to the Pool page for flyer with dates and times.
You must be a pool member to take the Lifeguard training classes.
Recreation and Parks is happy to announce that our Community Garden will be open to plant this year. Residents wishing to obtain a plot should call our office at 516-465-4075. Participants are responsible for the needs of their plot including planting, weeding, and harvesting. Space is limited and will be given out on a first come, first served basis.
We are excited to announce that the resurfacing of the St. Paul's playground is now complete! We invite any and all of our residents to come enjoy the new beautiful safety surface in the playground this up and coming spring and summer!
We’d like to remind folks about our Friday night Pickleball, which is held in the Field House from 5 to 8:30 pm, as well as Tuesdays- Fridays 9:30- Noon and the Thursday session from 3 to 5:30pm. This program will continue until May 26, and it’s loads of fun for everyone. The cost to participate is $6 per session, or residents can buy either a 5 session pass for $25, or a 10 session pass for $50. For further information about this program, please call the Recreation Office at 516-465-4075.
The Recreation Department is pleased to announce that starting on Friday, April 21, there will be two dedicated Pickleball courts available for residents to use at Grove Street Park. Due to the increasing popularity of Pickleball, the eastern tennis court at Grove Park has been converted to two Pickleball courts. The tennis court closest to Grove Street will remain open for tennis, so residents will have the ability to play either one of these popular sports. Courts are available on a first come, first serve basis, and there is no charge to use these courts.
Although the "COVID" quarantine is over, the Recreation department will continue to offer our residents a wide variety of online activities in our Virtual Recreation Center. Here you will find activities for all ages and interests. The Virtual Recreation Center is a great resource for those rainy days when outdoor activities are limited, as well as "off hours" when our facilities and programs are closed. Community Park is the heart and soul of the department. This park is home to our Tennis Center, Platform Tennis Courts, Clubhouse, Mini Golf, and newly renovated baseball/softball turf fields, and multi-use sports field.
Located in the middle of beautiful Garden City, the St. Paul's Recreation complex is used year round! Thirty acres of fields are used for various sports and events. In addition the complex has a Performing Arts Center and houses four full basketball courts.
The Department of Recreation and Parks sponsors a full range of activities, programs and trips to entertain our seniors.
Residents must be age 60 and older and reside within the Village of Garden City to use the facility.
More than just a standard municipal pool this facility continues to maintain a “Club Like” atmosphere with landscaped grounds, shade structures, and an interactive play pool and slides. We are “Fun in the Sun!”
One of the hidden gems of the Village of Garden City is our neighborhood parks. Our parks offer residents a place to shoot hoops, play on an open field or run around in a playground. Each park offers a unique experience.
The department offers a diverse number of programs to Garden City residents of all ages. We hope you will join in with other residents of Garden City who take part in the programs and activities we provide.
Can't stop by to register for a class? By obtaining a password ,after residence verification, you can register for department programs in the comforts of your home. This service is only for residents of the Village of Garden City.
