The Senior Center - "A Community Resource"
About the Center...
The Garden City Recreation and Parks’ Senior Center is now open. Our hours will be 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
The Recreation and Parks Department sponsors a wide range of activities to entertain our seniors. Participants must be age 60 and older and reside within the Inc. Village of Garden City.
Our Senior Center is located behind the old Lord and Taylor's parking lot off 11th Street at 6 Golf Club Lane. The newly renovated Center was recently enlarged to accommodate both senior groups and all senior programs the Recreation and Parks Department offers. The Senior Center is also available to rent for private parties when it is not in use by the seniors.
Senior Programing
Some of the many programs offered to senior residents ages 60 and older are Chair exercise, TaiChi, Meditation, Yoga, Games days, speakers, lunches, and much more! Please check our senior events page for our monthly calendar and all our offerings.
The Senior Center Guidelines for Use
- Any Village resident aged 60 or older may participate in Senior Activities at the Center. Upon entering the building, you will be asked to sign with your name, address, and phone number. Proof of age and residency may be requested upon entering.
- A senior resident may bring a guest. The guest must accompany the resident and may not stay if the resident leaves. Guests may not attend special senior events.
- Senior groups using the building for meetings will provide a list of their members to help facilitate sign-ins.
- The Senior Center is a co-ed facility and is open to all senior residents during operating hours. Senior and other group meetings will be scheduled in conjunction with planned activities and normal drop in visitor use. All activities will be monitored by the recreation staff who will enforce all operational rules and guidelines.
- Anyone using the facility must clean up before they exit the building. Please help us to keep the building clean.
- Any person who has been previously banned from another Village building may not enter the Center.
Rental Information
We are happy to announce, The Senior Center is also available for rental to residents. The south room of The Senior Center can be rented on a week night or on the weekends when not in use for a senior event.
Our facility offers comfortable, climate controlled community rooms year-round at an affordable price. From intimate meeting rooms that are perfect for smaller groups or business meetings to parties, christenings, anniversary's, family celebrations and so much more. Our facility also has a full commercial kitchen used for your choice of caterer, and alcohol is permitted.
