The Department of Recreation and Parks offers a wide variety of lessons tailored to the needs of the Garden City adult community. The adult tennis lessons are open to adults 18 years of age and up who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. In order to create sessions geared to the preferences and skills of residents, our head pros will group people on the same abilities together according to the registrations they receive. Garden City Recreation and Parks is working in conjunction with Mad Science to offer after school enrichment programs in St. Paul’s Center (108 Rockaway Avenue). Each program is one hour in length and will run for six week.
These programs are offered to Garden City residents in the Kindergarten through 3rd grades. Classes are limited to ten children. Children will have to wear a mask during each session.
The class offerings are as follows:
Mondays beginning February 8 from 4 to 5 pm: Mad Science
Mad Science provided innovative, hands on experiments and activities in science related themes such as Crazy Chemworks, Science Mania, and Nasa Space Academy. A different theme will be explored each week.
Tuesdays beginning February 2 from 4 to 5 pm: “Crayola” Artist’s Passport.
Travel the world through art! Kids will explore far off places and learn about the people who live there. They will experiment with “Crayola” brand products while trying art techniques of the places they are exploring.
Fridays beginning February 5 from 4 to 5 pm: Brixology
Engineers shape the world in this after school program! Each class, kids will step into the shoes of an engineer and build various engineering-inspired LEGO® projects. They will explore mechanical, structural, aerospace, nautical, and bioengineering while using critical thinking, cooperation, and creative problem-solving to test and improve creations.

The Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks will offer an adult art class this winter. This ten week program will teach the beginner as well as the advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastel from photographs. Arleen Rueth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America.
Classes will be held Fridays beginning February 12 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. The cost of this program will be $140. Please note: Masks must be worn during class and each participant must fill out a Covid survey sheet before each class to attend. This class is open to adult residents who reside in the Inc. Village of Garden City.
The first lesson includes a portrait and landscape demonstration. At that time, a supply list is provided. Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required as they move at their own pace and level of expertise.
